HAIR STORY PROJECT
what’s your hair story?
the images that started it all…
ABOUT…
This project is a photography series honoring the deep-rooted significance of hair and hairdressing in BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and other marginalized communities. Through tender portraits and collected stories, it explores hair as memory, resistance, and ritual. The public component—a mini-museum—will weave together personal narratives and works by other artists to create a living archive. It is a space to reflect, connect, and celebrate the beauty and meaning that lives in our roots.
It all started with the two photos above, which were featured in Tacoma Community College’s Black Artist Exhibition in February of 2024. In January of 2025, I applied for (and recieved!) a grant from the Tacoma Artists Initiative Program, which will assist me in furthering this series.
stay tuned.
